The newly appointed Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of police personnel stationed at all 23 local government secretariats in the state.
This action follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in response to ongoing political developments.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, emphasized that the decision aligns with the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to neutrality and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions. “The police will only be redeployed to these locations if a crisis or breakdown of law and order occurs,” the statement clarified.
The Rivers State Police Command assured the public of its readiness to maintain peace and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as the situation continues to evolve.
