Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai, has publicly declared his innocence regarding allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure. Speaking on Freedom Radio Kaduna on Tuesday, El-Rufai stated that he is prepared to swear with the Holy Qur’an to affirm that he did not steal public funds, challenging other former governors and leaders to do the same.
“I did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself,” El-Rufai asserted in Hausa. “I was financially stable before becoming governor. I am ready to swear with the Qur’an to prove my innocence if other former governors and current leaders would do the same.”
El-Rufai emphasized that the accusations against his administration were unfounded, with no clear evidence presented. He claimed that his allies were being targeted by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of a broader smear campaign. Despite this, he expressed confidence in Allah’s judgment and revealed that his legal team is preparing to take action against those defaming him.
“I have prayed and will remain silent on the issue,” he added. “For now, I’m focused on my activities like reading and writing, but I will return to politics in 2027, as there is no retirement in politics.”
El-Rufai reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people and challenged his critics, stating, “Whenever the former governors of Kaduna State and other leaders decide to take an oath swearing with the Quran that they never took people’s money, I’m also ready to swear,” He said.
