Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully freed 40 hostages and neutralized eight terrorists in various operations across the country. This was announced via a statement on the Army’s social media platform on Sunday night.
One significant breakthrough involved the arrest of a notorious arms courier found with a large cache of ammunition, marking a substantial victory against the proliferation of arms by criminal elements. Acting on intelligence, the troops intercepted terrorists and engaged them in a firefight, leading to the recovery of 303 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The suspect and his vehicle are now in custody as investigations continue to track down his accomplices.
In Kaduna State, precision strikes in the Birnin Gwari area resulted in the elimination of one terrorist, while further engagements in Kachia Local Government Area led to the death of two more terrorists and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the criminals.
In Borno State, the troops encountered fleeing terrorists in Faayijiwa Fandanari village, recovering AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and other supplies. Three more terrorists were neutralized in Gwoza Local Government Area, and a convoy carrying logistics for terrorists was intercepted at Gubio, with food supplies seized.
Another major victory in Kukawa Local Government Area saw the rescue of 38 hostages, including men, women, and children, after the terrorists abandoned them upon seeing the approaching troops. A similar operation in Yobe State led to the death of one terrorist, with the recovery of arms and a motorcycle.
The Chief of Army Staff praised the troops for their bravery and credited civilians for their continuous provision of credible information, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding Nigerian lives.
