The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). This follows hours of rigorous screening on Wednesday by the senators.
With her confirmation, Justice Kekere-Ekun becomes the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria and the second woman to hold the position. She was first appointed in an acting capacity by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024.
During her screening, Justice Kekere-Ekun promised significant reforms in Nigeria’s judiciary. “I am committed to sanitizing and restoring the integrity of our judiciary,” she stated, reaffirming her dedication to the role.
Her appointment has been met with widespread support, and many hope her tenure will bring much-needed changes to the country’s judicial system.
