Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has denied allegations that he paid N15 million to officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him.
The claims were made by social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, in a viral audio recording.
The EFCC has responded to the allegations, with the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, stating that the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
In a statement on his Instagram page on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Bobrisky refuted the bribery claims, insisting that the viral voice recording is fake and that he never paid any money to the EFCC. “My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC 15 million naira, and that I was never in prison. I didn’t pay any EFCC money, which is a very big lie. I served my term in full, and I came out. Discard any false information,” he wrote.
The social media sensation emphasized that he served his jail term as required and called on his followers to disregard the false claims circulating online.
This development comes as the EFCC has also invited Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan for questioning regarding the allegations.
