The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has embarked on a seven-day spiritual seclusion as part of the preparations for this year’s Olojo Festival.

According to a statement from the monarch’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, the seclusion, which began on Sunday, marks a period of deep spiritual communion with the Ooni’s ancestors, where prayers will be offered for Nigeria and the world.

Speaking to journalists before the seclusion, Oba Ogunwusi described this annual ritual as the most sacred time of his reign, noting that it allows him to reflect, seek guidance from the divine, and intercede on behalf of the Oduduwa people and humanity. He expressed concern over Nigeria’s current socioeconomic challenges and called on the public to exercise patience as the nation undergoes reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“Things are very tough, and people are feeling the hardship. I want to pray for all and urge the youth to exercise patience so that we do not destroy our country with our hands,” the Ooni said.

Oba Ogunwusi acknowledged the trials Nigerians are enduring but expressed optimism that the situation would improve after the Olojo Festival, stating, “I know that after this festival, normalcy will return to the country, as the problems we are facing will soon come to an end.”

He also urged government leaders to deliver the dividends of democracy and provide relief to the suffering populace. During this period of seclusion, which precedes the festival, the monarch will observe silence, reflection, and spiritual cleansing. His prayers and offerings will be for the peace, prosperity, and protection of the Yoruba race and the nation at large.

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Oba Ogunwusi will make a public appearance wearing the sacred Crown of Oduduwa, known as “Ade Are,” which is only worn once a year to symbolize the beginning of mankind, in line with the festival’s ancestral significance.
