A train traveling from Kaduna to Abuja, Nigeria, derailed at Jere, Kaduna, just an hour after starting its journey on Sunday morning. The train, which departed Kaduna at 8:05 am, had dozens of passengers on board when three of its carriages skidded off the tracks.

Security personnel, including the Nigeria Police and Army, quickly arrived at the site to provide assistance. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the incident and stated that some of its personnel had been dispatched to investigate the derailment.

In a statement, the NSIB said, “NSIB is aware of a derailment of an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna which occurred halfway into the journey at Jere. A go team has been deployed to the site of the accident.”

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has yet to officially confirm the incident.
