The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the voting period for the ongoing Edo State governorship election in areas where the process commenced late.

This extension follows challenges faced in some locations, including delays in the arrival of officials, electoral materials, and malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines.

INEC, in a statement signed by National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna, emphasized that voting will continue until all voters who were in line by 2:30 pm have cast their ballots. The commission is monitoring the election from its situation room at its Abuja headquarters and has ensured that backup electric generators are available at affected polling units and collation centers.

This move is in line with INEC’s commitment to ensure that no voter is disenfranchised.
