The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has mobilized its operatives across all local government areas in Edo State to curb voter inducement in the upcoming governorship election.

In a statement released by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent electoral process. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized the agency’s determination to protect the integrity of the election and prevent any form of financial inducement.

“Our operatives have been deployed to monitor the conduct of the election. We are committed to the attainment of electoral integrity by ensuring that voters cast their votes democratically without any form of financial inducement. Vote buying is a financial crime, and the EFCC won’t allow it anywhere,” Olukoyede stated.

The Commission highlighted its longstanding role in monitoring elections across the country, in line with its mandate to tackle economic and financial crimes. The off-cycle election in Edo State features 17 candidates vying for the governorship seat at Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City. The new governor will succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose eight-year tenure ends in November.

As election day approaches, the EFCC remains vigilant in its mission to ensure that voters are insulated from undue financial influence, reinforcing its dedication to free and fair elections.
