
Ibrahim Lamorde, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria has passed away. Lamorde, who was undergoing a procedure to remove a kidney stone, died in a hospital in Egypt about three hours ago.
His remains are scheduled to be flown back to Nigeria on Monday for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
A source revealed that Lamorde had traveled to Egypt for his wife’s medical treatment and decided to address his kidney stone issue during the trip. Unfortunately, complications arose during the procedure, leading to his untimely death. The Nigerian government is reportedly assisting in the repatriation of his body.
Lamorde was born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in 1984 and joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986. He served as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC from February 15, 2012, until his replacement by AIG Ibrahim Magu (Rtd) on November 9, 2015.
His death marks a significant loss, as he was instrumental in various anti-corruption efforts during his tenure at the EFCC.
