The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has begun airlifting sensitive electoral materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the Edo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the election, which will see voters in Edo State deciding their next governor.

Group Captain Kabiru Ali, NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed the operation, emphasizing that it reflects the collaboration between NAF and INEC to facilitate logistics. He noted that NAF’s role is crucial in maintaining a peaceful and timely election process.

Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), reiterated NAF’s commitment to the electoral process, stressing that the airlift operation underscores the military’s role in providing support to civil authorities during elections.

This logistical support follows a meeting between Abubakar and INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, where the importance of swift delivery of materials and the promotion of democracy were emphasized.
