Nigerian music superstar Davido has publicly endorsed Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Edo governorship election set for September 21.
In a social media post on Sunday evening, Davido rallied younger voters to support Ighodalo, highlighting his personal connection to the candidate. Ighodalo, he noted, is from the same region as Davido’s late mother. The musician’s post featured a photo of Ighodalo with the caption: “The next governor of my mother’s homeland.”
Davido’s endorsement could significantly impact the election, especially among the youth, thanks to his extensive social media following. This support follows endorsements from other celebrities, including Banky W, actress Adesua Etomi, Etinosa, and Nollywood actor Charles Onojie. Additionally, influential political figures such as Dr. Aloy Chife, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke have also voiced their support for Ighodalo.
The PDP’s campaign has gained momentum with these high-profile endorsements, potentially enhancing their chances in a fiercely contested race.
