Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo held a closed-door meeting in Minna, Niger State, with former military leaders Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) and Abdulsalami Abubakar, alongside former National Security Adviser Aliyu Gusau. The meeting took place amidst growing concerns over the escalating insecurity in Niger State and other parts of Northern Nigeria.
Obasanjo arrived in Minna at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, having flown in on a chartered flight from Edo State. Prior to the meeting, he had paid a congratulatory visit to the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, in celebration of his 90th birthday.
Upon his arrival, Obasanjo proceeded directly to Babangida’s Hilltop residence, where Abdulsalami and Gusau were already waiting. Though the details of the meeting were not made public, insiders suggest that it likely focused on the deteriorating security situation in the region, including the rise in banditry and other criminal activities.
The gathering of these elder statesmen has sparked speculation about their potential involvement in addressing national security issues, with many looking to their extensive experience and leadership during critical periods in Nigeria’s history.
