
In a significant victory against terrorism, the Nigerian Army has announced the elimination of a notorious terrorist kingpin, Haliru Buzu, along with several of his fighters in a strategic offensive operation conducted on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
The operation took place in Mayanchi village, located in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where the troops targeted a known crossing point used by the terrorists. Despite facing fierce resistance, the troops, equipped with superior firepower, successfully overpowered the terrorists.
The Nigerian Army reported the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) guns, three PKT machine guns, five AK-47 rifles, and hundreds of rounds of various types of ammunition. Additionally, the troops confiscated 29 AK-47 magazines, 30 motorcycles, two Android phones, and two Yeekee phones.
The terrorists’ camp was also destroyed during the operation, and further exploitation efforts are currently underway in the area. The military described the operation as a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
This development comes amid renewed military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks across northern Nigeria, contributing to national and regional security.
