Nigeria’s youth women’s basketball team, the Junior D’Tigress, secured a spot in the FIBA U-18 Afrobasket semifinals with a commanding 66-51 victory over Egypt.

This win comes after a challenging group phase where the team experienced a mixed performance, including a remarkable 107-30 triumph against Zimbabwe but a disappointing 64-80 loss to Uganda.

The quarterfinal clash against Egypt saw the Junior D’Tigress overcome their earlier setbacks to achieve a 15-point win, thanks to a standout performance by Abigail Isaac, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the game. Isaac contributed a double-double, scoring 15 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and adding two assists.

Despite issues with visa processing at the South African embassy, the team’s perseverance has been evident throughout the tournament. With their sights now set on the semifinals, the Junior D’Tigress aim to win both the semifinal and final games to secure a spot in the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Cup next year.
