The Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria has clarified the reasons behind its recent visit to the office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja, Nigeria.

Responding to allegations of an unlawful raid, the DSS stated that its personnel were merely conducting a routine investigation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the DSS refuted claims that its agents stormed SERAP’s offices, describing such reports as “inaccurate and misleading.” The secret police explained that two unarmed operatives were sent to the SERAP office as part of standard procedures, and that this visit was misconstrued as harassment or intimidation.

The DSS emphasized that such official inquiries are normal and do not amount to an illegal raid. It also reassured the public of its commitment to professionalism in carrying out its duties, while urging citizens to participate in national security management.

The clarification follows widespread reports of the alleged “unlawful invasion” of SERAP’s offices, which had sparked concern among civil rights groups and the public.
