Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa has clinched a silver medal in the women’s Javelin F54 category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Ugwunwa secured second place with a throw of 19.26 meters, finishing behind Uzbekistan’s Nurkhon Kurbanova, who set a new world record with a throw of 21.12 meters. This achievement marks Nigeria’s first medal in the women’s javelin category at this year’s games, bringing the country’s total medal count to four.

The 40-year-old Ugwunwa has now won three consecutive Paralympic medals, adding this silver to her two previous golds from Rio and Tokyo. The bronze medal in the event was claimed by Elham Salehi of Iran, with a throw of 16.24 meters.

Ugwunwa joins other medal-winning athletes for Team Nigeria, including Onyinyechi Mark, Eniola Bolaji, and Esther Nworgu, in contributing to the nation’s success at the 2024 Paralympics.
