A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with murder following a tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Barrow County, Georgia, United States, that left four dead and nine injured.

The attack took place on Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of two students and two teachers. The suspect, identified as Colt Gray, was apprehended by officers on the school campus and will be tried as an adult.

Authorities revealed that the suspect had been previously interviewed by the FBI in May 2023 after receiving anonymous tips about threats to commit a school shooting. However, no arrest was made at that time as there was no probable cause.

Local sheriff Jud Smith described the shooting as “pure evil” and commended the swift response of law enforcement and school resource officers who quickly secured the scene. Despite the lack of an identified motive, officials continue to investigate the suspect’s actions and connections.

Among those killed was 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, who was autistic. The shooting has prompted emotional responses, with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and other political figures expressing their condolences and concerns over school safety in the United States.

As the investigation continues, details about the type of weapon used and the suspect’s possible motivations remain unclear. Federal agents, including the FBI, are assisting local law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to uncover the full story behind this tragic event.
