
The Katsina State Police Command in Nigeria has announced the arrest of three suspected notorious gun runners and the recovery of a large cache of live ammunition along Dutsinma town in the state.
The suspects, identified as Ahmed Mohammed Kabir, 25, from Kaduna State; Mannir Musa, 25, from Dutsinma town, Dutsinma LGA; and Aliyu Iliya, 25, from Dankauye village, Safana LGA, were apprehended on August 29, 2024, while attempting to deliver 740 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to suspected armed bandits in Yauni forest, Ummadau village, Safana LGA of Katsina State.
The arrest is considered a major breakthrough in the police’s fight against armed banditry and gunrunning in the region. According to the Command’s Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects received the ammunition from Nasarawa State and were set to deliver it to Harisu, a notorious armed bandits’ kingpin who is currently at large. The suspects have confessed to their involvement and implicated Harisu as the mastermind.
“This achievement demonstrates our commitment to combating armed banditry and gunrunning in Katsina State and beyond,” ASP Sadiq stated.
In a related development, the Katsina State Police Command also announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with a suspected armed robbery case in Baure LGA. The suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim, 35, from Niger Republic; Abdullahi Nafi’u, 35, from Abuja; and Adam Musa, 36, from Kano State, were apprehended on August 27, 2024, following an armed robbery incident on August 3, where they robbed a resident, Ukashatu Isah, at gunpoint and stole two mobile phones. They also transferred a sum of six million naira (₦6,000,000) from the victim’s bank account into three different accounts. The suspects have confessed to the crime and are set to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
