Onyeka Onwenu, the renowned Nigerian singer affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” has been laid to rest in Lagos.

The music icon, who passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, died at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.

The funeral service was held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, and was followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi. Attendees at the service included prominent figures such as Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State.

“Onyeka Onwenu was not just an extraordinary musician but also a trailblazer in broadcasting, acting, politics, and activism,” a close associate remarked.

Onwenu is survived by her two sons, who were present at the ceremony, along with family members and fans who gathered to bid their final farewells.
