A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit against #EndBadGovernance protesters due to a lack of diligent prosecution.
The suit, filed by 17 Nigerians from the six geopolitical zones, was struck out by Justice Peter Lifu on Thursday after both the plaintiffs and their legal representatives failed to appear in court.
Expressing surprise at the absence of the plaintiffs and their lawyers, Justice Lifu stated that the court could not proceed with the case in their absence.
The plaintiffs had alleged that the protests violated their fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, human dignity, property ownership, and the right to national peace and security.
They had sought a court order compelling the Department of State Services (DSS), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chiefs of Army and Defence Staff, and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to halt the protests.
However, with the suit dismissed, Justice Lifu’s decision effectively ends the legal challenge against the #EndBadGovernance protesters.
