Afrobeats singer and producer Maleek Berry recently shared an intriguing story about his early days working with Nigerian music superstar Davido. Speaking on the ’90s Baby’ podcast, Berry revealed that during their time as upcoming artistes, Davido, despite hailing from a wealthy family, often acted as if he were poor.
Berry recalled how he and Davido worked together in a London studio and how Davido would blend in with everyone else, never giving away his affluent background. The reality of Davido’s wealth only dawned on Berry when he visited Davido’s father’s mansion, which left him in awe.
“I was there when Davido only had four thousand YouTube views. He used to act like one of those poor kids, but when I pulled up to his dad’s crib, I was surprised,” Berry shared.
Berry also mentioned that it was Davido who later connected him to another Afrobeats star, Wizkid, marking a significant moment in his career.
