United States Democrat, Kamala Harris has amassed a staggering $540 million in just over a month since launching her bid for the U.S. presidency.
The surge in donations, particularly during last week’s Democratic National Convention, underscores the enthusiasm among Democrats for her candidacy, her campaign announced on Sunday.
In a memo released by Harris’ campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, the significant fundraising haul was revealed, including $82 million that poured in during the convention week alone. “This is the most ever raised by any presidential campaign within this time frame,” Dillon said, highlighting the unprecedented support for Harris.
Vice President Harris officially entered the presidential race on July 21, following President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside after concerns were raised by fellow Democrats regarding his cognitive abilities. The concerns escalated after Biden stumbled during a June 27 debate against Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
Harris’ candidacy has rapidly gained momentum, putting Trump on the defensive as he struggles to keep the media spotlight on him. “The excitement around Harris’ campaign is palpable, and it’s clear she has struck a chord with voters eager for change,” Dillon added.
Harris, along with her vice-presidential running mate, Tim Walz, is set to embark on a bus tour through Georgia this week as they seek to build support in a state that could prove crucial in the upcoming November 5 election.
