The National Hospital Abuja has announced plans to establish a VIP section dedicated to serving presidents, high-ranking government officials, and other distinguished individuals both from within and outside the country. This VIP section will include a residential facility designed to offer luxury accommodations comparable to five- or seven-star hotels.

Prof. Mahmud Raji, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, highlighted that the new section will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a toxicology laboratory, a renal clinic for kidney transplants, a cardiac center, an orthopedic center, and a neuroscience institute for training and services. These enhancements are in response to the growing demand for advanced medical care, particularly for kidney and cardiac conditions, and to address the high costs associated with private healthcare facilities.

To achieve these developments, the hospital is considering the adoption of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, though government support may also be sought due to limited resources.

In addition, the hospital is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary from September 2nd to 8th, 2024. Since its establishment in 1999, the hospital has seen significant improvements in staff, equipment, infrastructure, and medical achievements. The anniversary celebrations will include a symposium and a gala night.

Prof. Raji emphasized the need to reduce medical tourism by raising awareness of the high-quality medical services available within Nigeria and attracting more investment in the health sector.
