The Supreme Court of Nigeria is set to deliver its final judgments on Friday, August 23, in the disputes surrounding the 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States.
After hearing arguments from lawyers representing various candidates on Monday, the five-man panel of justices, led by Justice Garba Lawal, has communicated that its decisions are ready for delivery.
In Bayelsa, the legal battle involves Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Timipre Sylvia of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
For Kogi State, the dispute is between the APC candidate, Usman Ahmed Ododo, who was declared the winner, and his challenger, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Both Douye Diri and Usman Ahmed Ododo had previously won their cases at the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunals and the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
