The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a significant increase in the fees for obtaining the Nigerian Passport, with the new rates set to take effect from September 1, 2024. This adjustment is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
In a statement released by DCI Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), it was revealed that the fee for a 32-page passport booklet, valid for five years, will rise from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000. Additionally, the cost of a 64-page passport booklet, which is valid for ten years, will increase from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.
“This increment is a necessary step to ensure that the Nigerian Standard Passport maintains its high quality and integrity,” said Udo.
The statement also clarified that the fees for Nigerians living abroad would remain unchanged. Udo expressed regret over any inconvenience the new rates might cause, assuring the public that the NIS remains committed to transparency and quality service delivery.
“We understand that this increase may be inconvenient for some, but we assure all applicants of our unwavering commitment to providing transparent and high-quality services,” Udo added.
