A 58-year-old man has tragically died while undergoing a 19-day dry fasting session in the Alagbado area of Lagos State. The incident occurred early Monday morning, according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
SP Hundeyin confirmed the report to newsmen on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, stating that the deceased’s younger brother reported the incident to the Alagbado Police Division later that day.
The brother, whose name was not disclosed, informed the police that his sibling had passed away during the prolonged fast, which involved abstaining from both food and water.
“No foul play is suspected,” Hundeyin said, adding that the family has requested to take possession of the body for burial. The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of extreme fasting practices.
