Singer Ed Sheeran has fulfilled “any football fan’s dream” by purchasing a minority stake in his hometown club, Ipswich Town, which was recently promoted to the Premier League.
Ipswich Town confirmed that Sheeran now owns a 1.4% stake in the club but will not be joining their board. However, the global pop star, who is a frequent attendee at Ipswich’s home matches, will have an executive box at Portman Road Stadium.
“Really excited to announce that I have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club Ipswich Town,” the 33-year-old artist shared on Instagram. “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner in the club they support, and I feel so grateful for the opportunity.”
Sheeran, who has lived in Suffolk since the age of three, expressed his deep connection to the area, saying, “Although I have traveled the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of a community and protected. It’s such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town.”
Ipswich Town, which earned automatic promotion after finishing second in the English Championship last season, will kick off their Premier League campaign at home against Liverpool on Saturday.
