A fire broke out early Friday morning, engulfing a seven-storey building on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area, affecting several shops and causing widespread panic among residents.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 5:17 a.m., prompting an immediate response from firefighters stationed at Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1. The teams arrived at the scene by 5:33 a.m., where they quickly began efforts to control the blaze.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that no casualties have been reported. “Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now under control. Ventilation efforts are currently underway to ensure the safety of all in the area,” Adeseye stated.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was likely triggered by an electrical surge. Despite the significant damage to shops, with items worth millions of naira destroyed, emergency services have managed to prevent further escalation.

The fire has sparked concerns among residents, but with the situation under control, authorities are continuing their efforts to secure the area and assess the full extent of the damage.
