One of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), has assured customers that their data remains safe following an attempted breach on the bank’s website.

The incident, described as an “isolated attempt to compromise” the bank’s domain, led to the website being inaccessible since Wednesday night, causing widespread concern among customers.

In response to the situation, GTBank issued a statement on Thursday clarifying that no customer data has been compromised, as the bank does not store sensitive information on its website. “We do not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data,” the statement read.

The bank also reassured customers and stakeholders, stating, “The Bank’s website has not been cloned,” addressing rumors that had circulated following the disruption. GTBank emphasized its commitment to resolving the issue, noting that its dedicated Information Security team is working around the clock to restore the website’s domain settings. “We can assure our customers that our website will be up shortly,” the statement added.

GTBank urged its customers to disregard any false claims being circulated and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding customer data. “We assure you of our unwavering commitment to protecting your information,” the bank concluded.
