Nigerian actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi has called on the public to participate in a protest on the first anniversary of singer Mohbad’s death if significant progress is not made in the ongoing coroner’s inquest. In a post on Instagram, Fabiyi urged Nigerians to attend the next court session and consider organizing protests to demand justice.
“Let’s storm the court peacefully and attend the next coroner’s inquest and protest to register our demands on this case. If nothing tangible is seen or heard, we focus on the day of the one-year anniversary,” Fabiyi wrote.
Mohbad, a former signee of the Marlian record label, passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023. Despite an autopsy conducted on his exhumed body, the exact cause of his death remains unclear, leading to widespread public outcry and calls for further investigation. The pathologist who performed the autopsy noted that “the test could not ascertain the cause of Mohbad’s death because the body had decomposed.”
Reacting to the inconclusive results, Mohbad’s family, dissatisfied with the outcome, has called for an independent autopsy. Fabiyi emphasized the need for continued pressure to ensure that justice is served.
