A Libyan driver was apprehended on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in the Bishr area of Libya for attempting to smuggle six undocumented Nigerian women.
The arrest occurred during a routine police patrol that intercepted the vehicle. The driver falsely claimed that the women were his family members in an attempt to avoid detention.
Migrant Rescue Watch, an organization that monitors migrant activities, reported on the incident, stating, “The driver claimed that the female passengers were his family. However, authorities saw through the ruse and took both the driver and the women into custody.”
The individuals involved have been transferred to the Bishr Police Department for further legal action.
“All parties have been transferred to Bishr Police Department for legal action as the investigation into the case continues,” the organization added.
