In a dramatic escalation of recent violence, a 12-year-old boy has become the youngest individual charged in connection with the riots that erupted in Southport following the fatal stabbing of three young girls. The boy, whose identity remains protected due to his age, faces charges of violent disorder related to the disturbances on July 30.
The unrest began after the tragic death of Bebe King, six, Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, who were fatally attacked at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29. The situation worsened as misinformation about the suspect spread, leading to chaotic scenes outside a local mosque where up to 1,000 people clashed with police.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that the 12-year-old is one of three males charged in connection with the riot. In addition, Harvey Gabbott, 21, and Paul Dryhurst, 33, are also facing charges of violent disorder related to the same events.
To date, 30 individuals have been charged over the Southport and Liverpool riots. Nationally, over 900 arrests have been made, with 466 people formally charged. The government has pledged to continue its efforts to restore order, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s spokesperson affirming that “the job is not done until people feel safe in their communities.”
Authorities remain on high alert, hoping for further de-escalation while the justice system continues its swift response.
