In the early hours of Monday, August 12, 2024, explosions believed to be caused by dynamites rocked the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) located in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria.
The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m., was confirmed by the Rivers APP Chairman, Sunny Wokekoro, who stated that he was en route to assess the damage inflicted by the explosions.
A party official, who requested anonymity, claimed the attack was politically motivated. “This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it,” the official said. “They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”
The incident has raised concerns about the growing political tensions in the state, with the APP urging authorities to take swift action to prevent further violence.
