
In a symbolic and celebratory moment at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo officially handed over the Olympic flag to Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Olympics. The ceremony took place at the Stade de France, marking the transition of the Olympic mantle from Paris to Los Angeles.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Hidalgo expressed her pride in Paris’s role in hosting the global event. “It has been an honor for Paris to welcome the world and showcase the Olympic spirit. We now pass this legacy to Los Angeles with confidence and excitement for what the future holds,” she said.
Karen Bass, the Mayor of Los Angeles, accepted the flag with enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to carry forward the Olympic tradition. Los Angeles is ready to create a spectacular and inclusive event that will inspire generations to come.”
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, who was also present, praised both cities for their commitment to the Olympic ideals. “The handover of the Olympic flag is not just a tradition, but a symbol of unity and shared values. Paris has set a high standard, and we look forward to the next chapter in Los Angeles,” Bach remarked.
The event capped off the Paris 2024 Games, setting the stage for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, which promises to bring new innovations and excitement to the world stage.
