A TikTok video showing a bandit kingpin dressed in military camouflage and allegedly distributing money to his followers has sparked outrage across Nigeria.
The video, which quickly went viral, was shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), leading to widespread condemnation and calls for immediate action from security agencies.
In the video, followers of the bandit could be seen sharing their account numbers in the comment section, eagerly awaiting financial rewards. The incident has raised serious concerns about the ability of Nigerian authorities to track and apprehend such individuals, particularly given the apparent ease with which they operate on social media platforms.
One user, @solbabyz, expressed disbelief over the situation, tweeting, “The fact these men are able to use smartphones comfortably is crazy. How can the Nigerian government not have the technology to track them even if the phones don’t have SIM cards?”
Another user, @ontophill_, questioned the effectiveness of security agencies, writing, “Why can’t DSS use the senders’ details from the bank and track them?”
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, responded to the growing criticism, urging Nigerians to recognize the ongoing efforts of law enforcement. He stated, “We can’t apprehend all the criminals at once. At least, appreciate us for the ones we have arrested. We arrest them on a daily basis, in large numbers.”
Despite these assurances, the video has intensified calls for more robust action against banditry and terrorism, as many Nigerians express frustration with the seeming impunity with which these criminals operate.
