Nigeria’s aspirations for a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games were dashed on Saturday as Hannah Reuben, the country’s last contender, was eliminated in the women’s freestyle wrestling 76kg event.

Reuben fell 5-2 in the Round of 16 to Mongolia’s Davaanasan Amar, ending Nigeria’s chances of securing any medals at the Paris Olympics.

This marks the first time since the 2012 London Olympics that Nigeria has failed to win a single medal. Expectations had been high for athletes like Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, and Favour Ofili, but they were unable to deliver the anticipated results.

With the Paris Games concluded, Team Nigeria will now shift focus to preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be hosted in Los Angeles.
