The Minister of Women Affairs in Nigeria, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, interrupted an event in Abuja on Thursday, August 8, 2024, and ordered the arrest of the organizer for allegedly impersonating the Ministry of Women Affairs. The event, titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security,” was organized without the ministry’s approval.
Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that the organizer, representing Mela-Chiyoma Pat Limited, was using the ministry’s name without permission, which prompted her to intervene. The organizer has been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The minister emphasized that the event was canceled with the President’s approval but was still conducted. She described the act as fraud and reiterated that the ministry would not tolerate being taken for granted. The disruption was shared on Kennedy-Ohanenye’s X page, where she explained the situation and the subsequent arrest.
