The national grid has collapsed for the fifth time this year, causing widespread power outages. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) reported the collapse occurred at approximately 2:55 pm on August 5, 2024.

Although the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to issue a statement, AEDC assured customers that efforts are underway to restore power. “Please be assured that the system is gradually stabilizing, and we are working diligently with all relevant stakeholders to restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible,” AEDC stated.

This latest incident follows previous grid collapses on February 4, March 28, April 15, and July 6.
