Republican presidential candidate in the United States, Donald Trump announced late Friday that he had agreed with Fox News to debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4. Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, though it was not immediately clear if Harris had agreed to the debate.
This development came just hours after Harris secured the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination for the upcoming November election. President Joe Biden, facing concerns about his age and declining poll numbers, withdrew his candidacy on July 21 and endorsed Harris. This followed a poor debate performance against Trump in June on CNN.
Initially, a second Trump-Biden debate was scheduled for September 10 on ABC, but with Biden’s withdrawal, Harris will now take his place. Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, had previously stated it was “inappropriate” to schedule the debate before Harris was formally the Democratic nominee.
