The locker used by Kobe Bryant during his iconic NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers sold for $2.9 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. This price nearly doubled the estimated $1.5 million value.
Bryant, an 18-time NBA All-Star who played his entire career from 1996 to 2016 with the Lakers, tragically died in a helicopter crash in 2020 at age 41. The locker, salvaged by a maintenance worker during renovations of the Staples Center in 2018, was later acquired by an American collector.
Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, remarked on the sale, emphasizing Kobe’s enduring legacy and the unique nature of the locker. The auction also featured memorabilia from other sports legends like Michael Jordan and contemporary stars like Rafael Nadal.
