Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has declared a 24-hour curfew in response to escalating violence during protests against economic hardship.

The curfew, announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Tofa, follows an emergency State Security Council meeting aimed at addressing the unrest.

The decision to impose the curfew is intended to safeguard lives and property amid the violent demonstrations. “The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities,” said Tofa. The governor urged citizens to remain vigilant and united, emphasizing the importance of not allowing the actions of a few individuals to divide the community.

In related incidents, hoodlums looted the newly built Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano State, setting the building on fire and stealing valuable equipment. Photos and videos of the destruction have circulated widely on social media.

All security agencies in Kano have been directed to enforce the curfew, and citizens are advised to comply for their safety and the community’s well-being.
