Banex Plaza, located in Abuja, has been temporarily shut down by the Nigerian Army following a violent attack on soldiers in uniform by unidentified hoodlums. The incident occurred on Saturday, prompting swift intervention by security forces to rescue the assaulted personnel and restore order to the area.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Army spokesman, the soldiers were unarmed and did not provoke the attack. The assault on them was described as unwarranted and unjustifiable.
In response to the incident, a meeting was held with the management of Banex Plaza to collaborate on identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
The temporary closure of the plaza aims to facilitate extensive investigations into the incident, with the goal of ensuring the security of the Federal Capital Territory. The Army emphasized the need to prevent similar attacks on security personnel and maintain law and order in the region.
The Nigerian Army urged the public to exercise caution and restraint when interacting with military personnel and report any grievances or misconduct through established channels. Failure to do so, it warned, could escalate into threats to national security.
As investigations continue, Banex Plaza remains closed, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the area.
