The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has suspended its previously announced 800% increase in navigational charges. This decision follows a directive from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in recognition of the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

In a statement released on Monday, NAMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Musa, confirmed the suspension. The agency’s decision to backtrack on the levy hike comes after widespread concerns from both passengers and stakeholders in the aviation sector.

“Minister Keyamo emphasized the need for further consultation before implementing any changes, highlighting the importance of being sensitive to the plight of Nigerians amidst these economic challenges,” Musa stated.

NAMA’s initial announcement last Friday of an 800% increase in navigation charges had sparked significant concern, with many questioning the timing and potential impact on airfares.

Further details are expected as consultations continue.
