The former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has issued a stark warning against the proposed nationwide protest organized under the banner of #Endbadgovernanceprotest. Fani-Kayode described the planned demonstrations as a potentially destabilizing attempt orchestrated by unnamed actors with ulterior motives, seeking to incite violence and unrest across the nation.
In a statement released earlier today, Fani-Kayode expressed his concerns about the planned protest, which is being termed a #nationwidestrike. He labeled the protest as an “orchestrated effort” designed to provoke security forces into mutiny and rebellion against the government, thus threatening the stability of the country’s democracy. According to Fani-Kayode, the protest’s organizers are exploiting the current economic hardships to generate panic, chaos, and potentially lead to armed insurrection.
“There is nothing wrong with a peaceful demonstration and a lawful, legitimate protest,” Fani-Kayode said. “What is unacceptable is a premeditated attempt by a group of faceless individuals who are on the payroll of subversive elements to destabilize the country and incite people to violence and carnage.”
Fani-Kayode’s comments come at a time of heightened economic tension and social unrest, which has already seen public discontent manifest in various forms. He urged the protest organizers to reconsider their approach, warning of the potential for severe repercussions similar to those experienced during the #EndSARS protests of 2020. Those protests, which initially began as a call for police reform, were marked by widespread violence, property damage, and a deepening of societal divisions.
“We do not want or need a nationwide #EndSARS-like round of protests,” Fani-Kayode stressed. “Neither can we afford the attendant violence, strife, division, damage to property, and bloodshed that comes with it.”
The former minister emphasized the importance of patience and dialogue as a means to address grievances. He advocated for expressing collective concerns through lawful, restrained, and responsible channels rather than resorting to mass protests that could provoke a violent response from security forces.
“Anything outside of that will be dangerous and counter-productive,” Fani-Kayode concluded, urging all parties involved to seek constructive engagement with the Federal Government to navigate the current challenges peacefully.
As the nation braces for possible developments, the call for dialogue over confrontation underscores the need for measured responses in times of socio-economic distress.
