The Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Nigeria has arrested Hashiru Baku, identified as the mastermind behind the murder of Brigadier General Harold Udokwere.

Udokwere, who served as the National Chairman of Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, was brutally killed during an armed robbery at his home on June 22, 2024.

Baku, an escapee from the Kuje Correctional Centre, was apprehended in Kano State while attempting to flee the country. He had continued his criminal activities unabated following his escape during the prison break.

Addressing journalists on Monday, FCT Commissioner of Police Bennett Igweh revealed that Baku was the orchestrator of the crime. “Instead of repenting, he continued with more audacity. We arrested him in Kano where he was trying to exit the country,” Igweh stated. Along with Baku’s arrest, police recovered the general’s gun, his wristwatch, and his wife’s jewelry, which had been stolen during the robbery.

Baku’s arrest follows the earlier capture of four suspects connected to the crime, who were paraded by the police on June 24, 2024. The police commissioner emphasized the significance of this arrest, highlighting the relentless efforts of law enforcement to bring all those involved to justice.

Further investigations are underway, with more details expected to emerge as the case progresses.
