In the most recent FIFA world rankings released on Thursday, July 18, 2024, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have slipped one spot to become the 39th best team globally.
This slight decline follows their previous position in the June ranking, where they also held the 39th spot.
While Nigeria remains a dominant force in African football, they are currently ranked as the 5th best team on the continent. Leading the African contingent is Morocco, now positioned at 14th globally, surpassing Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria.
At the pinnacle of the FIFA rankings sits Argentina, crowned as the best team in the world, closely trailed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil rounding up the top five. Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy complete the prestigious top 10 list.
Further down the rankings, teams such as Uruguay, Croatia, Germany, Switzerland, USA, Mexico, Japan, Senegal, and Iran occupy positions from 11th to 20th, highlighting the global diversity and competitive nature of international football.
The next FIFA rankings update is eagerly awaited to see if the Super Eagles can reclaim their upward trajectory and strengthen their standing both globally and within Africa.
