The Minister of Education in Nigeria, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced today, July 18, 2024 at the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja that a new curriculum for secondary schools nationwide will be rolled out by September 2024.
Speaking at the meeting, Mamman emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the educational system, stating, “We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September.”
The minister highlighted that preparations for this curriculum overhaul have been ongoing for the past year, with a stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for August 6, 2024, to finalize the implementation details.
“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” Mamman affirmed.
Recent concerns raised by the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission about the state of senior secondary schools in Nigeria, including infrastructure deficits, inadequate teaching staff, outdated curriculum, and poor facilities like libraries and laboratories, have underscored the urgency for educational reforms.
