Argentina clinched their record 16th Copa America title with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Colombia in the final held at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night.

The Albiceleste secured the win thanks to a late extra-time goal from substitute Lautaro Martinez.

Martinez, the tournament’s top scorer, scored the decisive goal in the 112th minute, skillfully lifting the ball over Colombia’s advancing goalkeeper, Camilo Vargas, after receiving a precise through ball from Giovani Lo Celso.

This victory is particularly significant for Argentina as they achieved it without their talisman, Lionel Messi, who suffered a non-contact injury and had to leave the field in the 64th minute. The Inter Miami star was visibly distressed, covering his face with his hands while sitting on the bench.

The win marks Argentina’s third consecutive major title, following their 2021 Copa America and 2022 World Cup victories.
