
Veteran Nollywood actress, Ayo Mogaji, has shared her remarkable journey to motherhood and her experiences in an abusive marriage during a podcast hosted by fellow actress Abiola Adebayo.
Mogaji revealed that she became a mother at the age of 40, despite having only one fallopian tube. “I had my baby six weeks after my 40th birthday, despite having one fallopian tube,” she recounted. This came after a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy that ruptured her fallopian tube. “They took me to seven hospitals. The doctor wasn’t sure if I could survive till tomorrow,” she recalled.
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube, leading to what is known as a tubal pregnancy. The condition required immediate surgery. “The operation took seven to nine hours,” Mogaji said. The surgery involved the removal of one fallopian tube, but she later gave birth naturally with the remaining tube.
In addition to her health challenges, Mogaji also spoke about enduring 13 years of an abusive marriage. She described her ex-husband as physically and mentally abusive, which led her to advise women against staying in such relationships. “When matrimony leads you to a place where you can’t have your own friends, the family cannot come, you start looking at them somehow, even knowing the kind of job you were in before you got married… I will advise anybody to get out of that kind of marriage because otherwise, they may come and meet your candle,” she warned.
Mogaji emphasized that there is no possibility of reconciliation with her ex-husband. “There can’t be room. If I could tolerate that for 13 years thinking there could be a change, then there can never be change. He is not a bad person but when you are
